Travel and Parking

Note that there will be a road closure in effect for Market Place from Monday 26th November through to Monday 17th December from 10am to 6pm daily (7pm on Friday 30th November).  Please click here for details.  If driving, please follow the diversions for town parking and contact your service provider for any changes in schedules (contact information below).

Cirencester is within easy reach of a number of places. It is just:

• 15 miles from Swindon and Junction 15 of the M4
• 17 miles from Cheltenham
• 21 miles from Gloucester
• 34 miles from Bath
• 38 miles from Bristol and from Oxford
• 87 miles from the edge of London ( Junction 1 of the M4)
• For those travelling from the North, it is only 17 miles from Junction 11A of the M5.

Car Parking in Cirencester

Although there are approximately 8 car parks in Cirencester, these can get very busy. For this reason, we would urge visitors to use one of the other transport options listed on this website.

There is free parking available on Saturdays and Sundays at Cirencester College (Stroud Road, Cirencester GL7 1XA).  Please follow the AA signs.

Disabled Car Parking

Disabled badge holders must park in accordance with 'The Blue Badge Scheme' issued by the Department for Transport. If you wish to have more information please contact Gloucestershire County Council.

Blue Badge Holders within the car parks: 

Residents and visitors with limited mobility who are blue badge holders can park free of charge in any Cotswold District Council run car park. The vehicle must display a current blue badge and time clock. The vehicle must be parked within a parking bay. The vehicle can be left for the maximum stay of that car park only. Exception: Forum Car Park, Cirencester. Badge holders may park for 10 hours as long as a current badge and time clock are on display.

Blue badge holders parking on Street: 

Limited waiting bays Disabled badge holders can park in limited waiting bays without restriction. A valid disabled badge must be clearly displayed.

Yellow lines

Disabled badge holders are permitted to park on yellow lines for up to three hours as long as they are not causing an obstruction. The disabled badge and clock must be clearly displayed with their clock set to the time of arrival. Failure to display your badge and clock with the arrival time set could lead to a PCN being issued.

Disabled bays

Disabled badge holders are permitted to park in designated disabled bays. Please check signs for time restrictions. The disabled badge and clock must be clearly displayed with their clock set to the time of arrival.

Coach

There are regular coaches every day to Cirencester with National Express.  For more information, please go to: www.nationalexpress.com

Train

Cirencester does not have a train station in the town centre. However, Kemble, which is 4 miles southwest of Cirencester is on the main London Paddington – Cheltenham line. Trains are operated by First Great Western and take approximately 1 hour 20 minutes. There are trains every hour. Once at Kemble station, the options are:

Stagecoach Bus from the station into Cirencester, which runs every couple of hours (service number 881).
Pulhams Coaches. Service number 855.

Taxis

As the regular taxi ranks will be closed during Christmas Market hours, temporary taxi ranks will be available outside the Bingham Gallery next to the Town Council Offices.

Bus

During the Christmas Market, the main bus pick up and drop off will be at South Way near the Forum Car Park.  Note that Andy Bus will be using the Old Tetbury Road bus stop for pick up and drop off.  Please see the schedule below.

The Cotswolds is easy to get around by bus with many local bus services linking main towns throughout the area, including the RailBus services linking to the Cotswolds & Malverns Line trains.

The 51 Service will not serve Cirencester Market Place from Monday 26th November through to Monday 17th December inclusive.  The Service will be diverted via London Road, Lewis Lane and will pick up and drop off passengers at the temporary bus stop on South Way, Opposite Forum Car Park.  This arrangement will operate in both directions.

SERVICE 53
The 53 Service will not serve Cirencester Market Place from Monday 26th November through to Monday 17th December inclusive.  The Service will be diverted as follows:

From Swindon to Stratton
After Chesterton Estate the service will divert via Midland Road, A419 Bristol Road, A429 Swindon Road, London Road and Lewis Lane and will pick up and drop off passengers at the temporary bus stop on South Way, Opposite Forum Car Park.  The service will then exit via Dyer Street and London Road before continuing on its original route.

From Stratton to Swindon
Service 53 will not serve Spitalgate Lane or Dollar Street.  The service will divert via A435 Grove Lane, London Road and Lewis Lane and will pick up and drop off passengers at the temporary bus stop on South Way, Opposite Forum Car Park.  The service will then exit via Dyer Street before continuing on its original route.
