Cirencester Advent Festival

Cirencester’s Advent Festival on the 26th November 2016 marks the day that we kick off the Christmas season – whatever the TV ads have been doing!

Established in 1998, The Advent Festival and celebrity light switch on has a long established history, attracting international media and visitors from around the world.

A local celebrity is asked to switch on the lights, previous celebrities have included Elizabeth Hurley, Dom Joly, Melinda Messenger and Laurence Llewelyn Bowen. It’s a great fun filled event and a highlight in Cirencester’s annual event calendar.

Organised by Cirencester Town Council, the vision behind the festival is to promote Cirencester as a destination for shopping, dining and enjoying; bringing the community together in celebration and raising valuable funds for the beautiful Christmas lights and tree.  This year we have worked in partnership with Cirencester Chamber of Commerce to bring a Christmas Treasure Trail to the Town as well as the Christmas Window competition.

In 2014 the town showcased it’s new environmentally friendly Christmas lights which that the main Market Place and the adjacent streets. The objective is to eventually cover more areas in the town so your generosity on the day is much appreciated!

On the day the Market Place is closed to traffic, market stalls are set up and the team wheel in a flatbed lorry to use as a stage, rig up a PA and lights, and from midday we have have lots of fun.

Highlights include live music, entertainers, food, drink and fair rides make Christmas shopping in Cirencester a real hoot.  It all reaches a climax at 7pm when our local celebrity flicks the switch and on come our Christmas lights accompanied by fireworks from the sensational Cotswold Fireworks.  For more information on this years entertainment and programme, click here.
